UPDATE – Open Arms Worldwide – “Welcome Home” Children’s Shelter Mission

JESUS MAKES ALL THINGS NEW

Back in April we shared with you the dire situation at the Welcome Home shelter for foster children near our Brazilian headquarters. The paint was peeling off the mildewed, institutional blue-gray walls due to leaks in the roof.  Everything was hard and cold; no comforts of home. Despite the good intentions of the city workers who staff the facility, donations of used clothing and toys piled up in the hallways and had become unusable. Bathrooms without toilet seats, showers without doors for privacy, and metal frame beds in ill repair.

A NEW DAY

Our team, along with our business partners at Wellhouse & Co, and a very generous family partner, took on the task of helping “Welcome Home” live up to their name.

In conjunction with that renovation work, Open Arms Worldwide’s team of missionaries and child psychologists, our “Agents of Hope,” have begun ministering to the children who are living in the facility, as well as training a team of volunteers from a local church partner to run an Open Arms Bible Club program there on a weekly basis.

Phase 1 of this project is nearing completion.  Check out the before and after photo’s!

MORE TO BE DONE

There remains work to be done.  Things like a playground outside, a gathering space to hold bible club activities and other classes for the children, and wooden dressers for each child to replace the cold metal cabinets they currently use, to name a few.  In addition we will need materials for the ministry there.  Items like toys, games, bibles, sporting equipment, art supplies, and more.

MATCHING GIFT CAMPAIGN CONTINUES

We are $8,925 away from reaching our goal of $15,000, which will then be matched by an additional $15,000. Every gift gets us a little closer.  You can double your impact in the lives of these kids and help us give them a truly “welcome home” today.
